The beer year 2022 is now in the past. Let’s check the world’s best beers and breweries based on the beer ratings in Pint Please.
Beer drinkers around the world rate their beers in the Pint Please app. Some use it as their beer diary, some use it to get recommendations on the new beers to try, some are collecting the cool stickers which you get by rating the beers from different breweries, countries and beer styles etc.
We analysed close to a million beer reviews from 2022 from all over the world to get the results for this blog post. Last year Pint Please users tasted over 96 000 different beers. And this number didn’t include any home brewery beers.
Best breweries in the world
The top-20 list of the best breweries in the world consists of only European breweries. Some of the hyped breweries e.g. from the United States didn’t qualify because of the minimum amount of 1000 ratings during 2022 which was required to qualify for the list. A strong European user base means that Pint Please users mostly drink European beers. This means beers which are easily available in local supermarkets and pubs.
Fauve and Brasserie Popihn from France took the first and second place while Ärpus Brewing Co. from Latvia being the third. Those who have ordered Ärpus beers online know that their stock might sell out quite fast.

Beers needed to have at least 100 ratings during 2022 to qualify for this list. Pint Please has a strong presence in France and this can be seen in this list also. Half of the beers in the top-10 are from France! Some of the hyped beers from the United States couldn’t cram into the list because they barely missed the minimum rating amount required to qualify.
Stylewise it’s all about the IPAs, NEIPAs and APAs.

Best beers in the world over 6,0%
Westvleteren 12 made it to the top and with quite a large margin. This is part of the strict 100 reviews minimum limit during 2022 which was required to qualify for this list. There were several other beers quite close but didn’t have enough ratings. Belgium Abt / Quadrupel and Tripel beers conquered the list with some Double NEIPAs.

Most popular beer styles
India Pale Ale was the most rated beer style in Pint Please in 2022. Pale lager which is commonly the most popular style in the world got a second place among beer enthusiasts. NEIPA’s popularity is strong in third place and sours were also in a high position in 6th place.

Best rated beer styles
Strong beer styles usually receive better ratings than milder styles. As we can see in this TOP-20 list it’s all about stronger styles. If a brewery wants to make it to the top on general best beer/brewery lists it’s better to try that with New England Double or Triple IPA than pale lager. The average rating for the winner-style New England Triple IPA is 3.92. So on average beers in that style are rated really high!
However, comparing the beers in their styles is more interesting rather than putting them all in the same basket. But that is what we are going to take a look into in our future posts!
